As described in the Application Guidelines (Guidelines) of the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship, applicants who have passed the first screening must contact the Japanese universities they wish to attend by September 1, 2025 (Japan time) to request a letter of provisional acceptance, after receiving notification of their first screening result.

The Graduate School of Energy Science asks those who wish to apply to the Graduate School of Energy Science at Kyoto University to contact a prospective supervisor through the AAO process.

Applicants must upload the necessary documents to the AAO website. For details, please see the URL below.

Important Notice:

– All applicants, whether sponsored by MEXT or not, must follow the GSES admission procedures in order to enroll as a regular student.

– There are two methods of admission for international applicants.

1) International Energy Science Course (IESC):
Students can study and finish their Master’s or Doctoral program only in English.

Applications are only accepted via the online submission system. Please read the IESC website carefully for details.


*The IESC Master’s program is operated by three departments: the Dept. of Socio-Environmental Energy Science, the Dept. of Fundamental Energy Science, and the Dept. of Energy Conversion Science, while the IESC Doctoral program by all four GSES departments, including the Dept. of Energy Science and Technology.

2) Regular Master’s / Doctoral Course:
Operated by all four GSES departments.
Japanese proficiency is required for the Master’s course.
