In the 20th IAESREC Science Cafe, we invite Dr. Daniel Packwood, Associate Professor at iCeMS, Kyoto University.

He graduated with a PhD from the University of Canterbury in 2010, specializing in chemical physics. He then worked as a JSPS Foreign Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Chemistry, Graduate School of Science, Kyoto University from 2010 – 2012, an Assistant Professor at the Advanced Institute for Materials Research (AIMR) at Tohoku University from 2012 – 2016, a PRESTO Researcher at the Japan Science and Technology Agency from 2014 – 2018 (Collaborative Mathematics Area), before joining iCeMS in 2016 as a Lecturer. He was promoted to his current position in 2023. In 2016 he was awarded the 5th Fujiwara Hiroshi Prize for Mathematical Science for his work at the intersection of materials science and applied mathematics.

In this presentation, he will discuss his career journey, beginning with an unusual early-career project that aimed to bridge mathematics and materials science. He will also highlight his significant research achievements along the way.

Please feel free to join us!
